I actually am in need of a few rotom myself. I only recently bought platinum and a ds in anticipation of HG/SS remakes, and I missed out on the key event thing. Would it be possible to trade a rotom in each appliance form, or do they revert during trade?

They leave the appliances in WFC areas and in trades. You will not be able to legitimately get the secret key again in Platinum. Word is however that Rotom itself will allow access to an area in HGSS which facilitates its Forme change, but that's no help for Platinum, hmm?

Admittedly, I also missed the distribution, and my solution was this: use the Deoxys Distibution ROM and mod it to distribute a secret key wondercard instead. Run that ROM in one of my DS's and download the key to my Platinum cart in the other. And it worked beautifully.

There's an area in the Silph Co. building that if you take the elevator you can take a Rotom and it'll turn it on. Taking you to a room with the various appliances. If anyone needs a Rotom just ask and I'll make you an Egg :P
