Hello, 151chan.

I'm planning on getting a new PSP, and I want to hack it.

So far, my friends have told me that the PSP 1000 is definitely hackable, the 2000 is somewhat hackable, and the 3000 is almost impossible to hack.

I'm deciding between 1000 and 2000. Which do you recommend?

Right now, I have my mind set on getting the original. What do you think?

Recently looked into this myself, for the same reasons.
IF POSSIBLE get the 2000, if you KNOW it's an early release, or it's already been hacked. Later releases are un-hackable.
The reason to get the 2k, if you can, is because it has a few extra things, like you can hook it up to your TV.

If you can't find that, get the 1000. It'll do just fine for your homebrew N64 NES SNES Genesis PS1 ETC piratey needs.

I wouldn't bother trying the 2000, as the 1000 is also capable of everything the 2k is, including video out IIRC, just with a different cable. The 2k has a brighter screen, but is unable to run firmware 1.5 dependent homebrew, which really limits you. I'd go with a 1000 if you have the choice.

If you know more about the video out on the 1000, let us know. Either way, if I'm getting a PSP, I'm getting 1000, now. Thanks, Mr. Nona =]

I looked a bit into it and apparently the solutions are kinda sketchy for TV-out on the 1000, but you gotta weigh that against the complete inability of the 2000 and up to use the 1.5 kernel for homebrew, which (trust me) really makes a difference in how much homebrew you are capable of running. You can still use the latest firmware with the new features and whatnot, and still use the 1.5 kernel by using the M33 line of CFW, so don't worry about having to stick with a stone-age firmware either.

Oh, and in case you wanted to know, here's the three solutions for video out that the PSP has:

-Bulky, expensive equipment that's basically a camera that sitson top of your screen, relaying that image to the TV. Overall pricey, unwieldy, and just plain suckish.

-Mod kit to more or less gut your PSP and add a whole host of different things to it, including of course RCA or component out. Great if you know what you're doing but definitely NOT the sort of thing to try as a first project.

And lastly,
-Not really the TV, but you can use the homebrew software called RemoteJoy to play the PSP on your compter sceen via USB cable. If you just want a nice image for yourself, then this is the best bet; if you absolutely *must* have true TV-out then go with option 2; don't waste money on the camera-mount-thing.

Thank you =]
If I got a PSP, I'd probly end up doing the internal modding - I have a stepdad who is elite at electronics.

Cool, I wish I had the skill to do that, but I can't even replace my dead Crystal version battery properly. Well to be fair to myself I got the type without solder tabs and I'm lucky the damn thing didn't explode, but... Yeah, I'm not too great with hardmods.
