Nintendo might currently be buying new CPUs for a future handheld.

Our core handheld adventures have always been in a 2D world. But with the next handheld, it's likely we'll see GameCube graphics.
With the DS, Game Freak cleverly integrated 3D into looking 2D, and they maintained the 2D feel and gameplay of all previous games. Game Freak has emphasized that they want to keep Pokémon 2D.

With the pressure of 3D GameCube-ness, will Game Freak finally bend and create the 3D adventure we've dreamed of? It would open so many more possibilities, and we'd no longer be limited to a 2D overhead experience. Right now I'm envisioning a switching between overheard and free-roaming modes, kind of like how Metroid: Other M seems to switch up controls.

For example, I walk from Pallet to Viridian in a 3D world. It would be a 3rd person view - which means, you see Red walking around in front of the camera. Items on the ground would only be visible by walking next to them and seeing them (encouraging exploration). It would feel much more familiar and natural to walk forward and have trees blocking your sight, rather than seeing exactly what comes next via an overhead view.
Same 3D free-roaming when I got to Viridian.

I was thinking that puzzle-like areas could be overhead-view only, but thinking on it further... I think that the entire game could be enjoyed from only a 3rd person perspective. the tiles in Silph Co. would be much more challenging... so maybe Game Corner/Silph Co/certain gyms/etc should stay overhead?

Not only these ideas, but add day/night and dates to the game? It's a really exciting prospect. Certain NPCs being in town only on certain days. Planting a berry and coming back later to water it and watch it grow.

While I would be very happy to see innovation within the 2D-only realm, we must include the possibility of 3D in our speculation.

Let's brainstorm ideas for Gen V's title pair. You know, like Red/Blue and Diamond/Pearl. Also come up with the third, if you're feeling ambitious.
I was thinking I might make this a sort of contest, too. If a person guesses both titles correctly, I could buy their choice of HG or SS when it comes out in the US. Possibly.

We still need to guess the R/S remakes, though.

Russia/Ireland (Russia as in the Red Menace, of course, and Ireland is known as the Emerald Isle.)

We know the Pokemon series has practically grabbed almost every animal, mythological creatures and some objects, make them look fancy, vicious or retarded and call it a Pokemon.

So what do you want to see as a Pokemon? Me, I would like to see a Vampire squid or something similar.

(I don't know if this belongs in /beedrill/ or /dex/, but I'd give /dex/ a shot)

Well, Yanma is a dragon fly. A mosquito would be cool. This vampire bug would make a good creepydex ala Kabutops.

Ha! My idea came true, and it's actually one of my new favourites.

Ostrich is pretty much Dod-uo/rio. I'm all for new interpretations though, and alternate species. Dolphin and wombat are good ideas though.

So who was this girl from the 1st season's opening?

Some say she was an insert from the lyrics about watching a Pikachu running through girl's skirts or something.

I think there was something more to her though, why was she added into the opening? She was drawn with some detail in order to distinguish her as an individual character. Was she supposed to be Gary's sister or Ash's lost love interest (lols)? She could have been anybody important and a lot more than some extra.

It was pretty cool, I wish it was a combination of tech and old artifacts that had something to do with the past. A museum alone does seem kind of boring.

There is no Gen0, true

But Gen0 is a blanket term used to describe the series before it came to be what it is today and is an easy way for me to describe it. I could call it prototype, x, or "the artwork that predated pokemon" (which is very long and a pain to type)

As we all remember from season 1, Gary meets up with Ash and shows him 10 badges and he was going for his 11th one. It fore mentioned that only 8 badges were required to qualify for the league.

Now keep in mind that there are in fact unofficial gyms like AJ's.
The game came out before the series and there were only 8 badges but more than 8 cities (ex. lavender town)
It is possible to skip gyms in Kanto and still get into the league

What happened to the cities where these other gyms are? What kind of gyms are they (water, psych, fire)?

I don't know where all these other gyms came from or if the trainers are taking badges from other regions (ex. Jhoto, Orange Islands, etc...) and mixing them with the Kanto badges. If this were true then it wouldn't matter where you came from and the league is not interested in where you get your qualifications from but if you meet the 8 badge mark.

We need a side-story of Gary's pokemon journey

Well the ones so far are headed for the Kanto league, so that implies they earned Kanto badges.

I'd totally watch more side stories like Chronicles and Raikou: Legend of Thunder, I don't see why it doesn't happen more often. It'd be awesome if they always made one main-character movie for each gen's new player character. Actually I think Platinum would make a really great movie.

Here are the badges from the Dengeki Pikachu manga. They're just another interpretation of the Kanto badges, but it's still interesting to see all the different badges.

Ok so have any of you heard of this whole lavender town tone/tune thing? apparently some children in japan got nose bleeds/illnesses and or killed themselves because of tones in the original lavender town theme. Now I am guessing this is fake but I am just finding out about it now and it seems like an interesting story real or fake. so whats the verdict?

The gameboy hardware could NOT play that.

Pretty unsettling though. I do wish he would've gone into the tower and fought Buried Alive. I imagine him as an ungodly powerful lich.

Terrible and unoriginal? Who are you to say that! Could YOU create over 200 fake Pokemon sprites? I think not! I like these sprites.
>> No. 491
>>490
Half of them are evolutions or pre-evolutions of already existing pokemon, and a lot more are ripoffs, like Araciom, Pinkmee, and Hamawl.
And another thing, they hardly have any unique or interesting type combinations. Most of them are the same old combos, like they didn't think outside the box at all.
So that is how they are unoriginal.
>> No. 545
I like most of these, especially the pre-evolutions and evolutions.

Valenhart, however, is the one I want to see the most, as it links Luvdisc with Alomomola.

Thing is, if you're going to make five new Regis, then you also need to give Regigigas an evolution.

I can definitely see Hitmonsumo becoming real, but I also see Hitmonsumo as a link between Tyrogue and Makuhita, possibly along the same lines as how Mantyke + Remoraid = Mantine, where Tyrogue + Hariyama = Hitmonsumo, as Tyrogue would get sumo lessons from Hariyama.

As for a name, I think Hitmonzuna fits, as it would honor the legendary WWE sumo Yokozuna.

Dent, Pod, Corn. The three gym leaders of Sanyou city. It is speculated that they are in fact the Dark Trinity, the 3 teleporting minions of N and Geechisu. While there isn't much to go by, here's what people have brought up:

*They are both groups with three, identical members.
*Dent, Pod, and Corn are the only leaders absent when the Gym Leaders of Unova come to stall the Sages of Team Plasma so you can make it to N. (The Dark Trinity lead you through the castle though).
*The two groups are never seen at the same time.
*While some would say that the 3 Sanyou brothers never leaving the gym would be a counterpoint, the Dark Trinity can teleport, so it's possible that they return to the Gym to keep up appearances.
*Sanyou City is the only major town (barring your home town) that Team Plasma has no activity in. (Though they do go to the Dream Site, just west of Sanyou City.)
*Any major descriptive features of the Dark Trinity are never seen (Eye color, pokemon on hand, etc), so there's little evidence disproving their identity as Trial Triangle. (Barring their uniform white hair, which could easily be a wig.)

So, what do you think, /lore/? Do we have spys in the ranks of the Unova Gym Leaders? Or is it a coincidence? Hopefully, we'll find out in Gray.

In their most recent appearance in the Pokemon Special manga, the Shadow Triad are seen, and for the first time, it can be seen that their designs are not completely identical. Their masks match the facial patterns of the 3 Elemental Monkeys. Not only that, but their masks are shaded differently, possibly suggesting they are different colors as well.

Black City or White Forest. It'll be dependent on your trainer ID number =P
Nah. Grey Void sounds good. Colourless Casm. Something without colour which adds colour as you interact with other games, reminding me of de Blob. Or perhaps the opposite. When doing Entralink maybe Residential Rainbow is in colour where the rest of the world is still b/w.
Maybe the area will be devoid of humans/Pokémon depending on your doings. Maybe it won't be a city at all. Perhaps a randomly generated dungeon.

>>532
If it wasn't already planned by GF, they could easily incorporate the idea into the games now, being inspired by the manga. (As they've done before with Silver)

ITT: Desert gets stone and types shit

<DGuru> I just thought of something
<DGuru> pokemon Red and Blue, and Gold and Silver, shared more box art style, and Ruby and saphire, and Diamond and Pearl.
<DGuru> and now Pokemon Black has a style that is different from both
<MrStu> Yeah. I guess ruby and saph didn't cause gba-DS
* Mahogany_Snake (~Falgnar@Rizon-A0D2EA02.ec.res.rr.com) has joined #151chan
<MrStu> Black and White I guess is trying to say "I'm a dsi game" or something
* Tall_Hat has quit (Ping timeout: 240 seconds)
<DGuru> well, they dropped the art style for the RBYGSC with RuSa, and used that style up untill Platinum. Then HGGS being a remake had different style, and now BW has a brand new one.
<MrStu> Oh, you're right about the R/S/E and DPPT.
<DGuru> yeah, it kinda makes me feel like gen 1/2 had a kind of saga feel to it. and so does gen 3/4. Perhaps BW will have a much deeper connection to the eventual 6?
<MrStu> I hope so, and I can't wait to find out the in story stuff for BW. Not done with the game stuff and it's all in japanese. I'll probably finish it by the time it comes out in America so I won't have time to look up the story.
<DGuru> well, also i feel as if gen 1 and 2 dealt more with personal events more than global, and gen 3 and 4 dealt with more of a global crisis. Like the events of kanto and johto were more related to red and gold.
<MrStu> Yes, I agree with that.

If there is a continuation from BW in Gen VI, it will probably use the planes, cars, trains, and/or boats that are present in those games to travel to the new region.
