What is /emu/?
/emu/ is a board for discussing emulators, ROMs and for help with issues involving the two.

What are some good emulators?
There are lots of great emulators out there, but for convinience, I will list the ones which are generally thought to be the best for each console.

GB/GBA: Virtual Boy Advance.
DS: NO$GBA
N64:Project64
GC/Wii: Dolphin (Currently the only emulator that can successfully emulate most GC and Wii games)

If you do not like these particular emulators, or are looking for an emulator for a console which does not have Pokemon, don't worry, a list of known video game emulators is here.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_video_game_console_emulators

Great, can I have links to some ROMs now?

True, but I've seen people complaining about slowdown when they're using pre-2.6a versions. It may not have updated in forever, and its renderer could be faster, but in my experience it's the best for general use and is more than capable of running the D/P engine at 100% on even medium-grade computers.

Has anyone developed a program to trade on an emulator, either with yourself or with another person?

TCB-Dual I think it's called can be used for trading with gen I & II games, battling seems to lag in such a way that seems like even my fairly good computer can't transfer the data between emulator windows quick enough.
VBA Link can apparently be used to trade with gen III games, though I'm yet to be able to get it to work.

I recently bought a DS Lite along with HeartGold, r4 ultra and EZFlash 3in1.
I had been playing Diamond on No$GBA and there were a couple of pokemon I wanted to tranfer to HG to carry on using in said game, so I put the Diamond Rom on the R4 card along with the converted save file so it could run on the DS properly from where I left off on the emulator, then borrowing a friends DS I started Diamond on his and HG on mine, then simply traded like normal.

On this same line of thinking, has anyone found a way to use palpark on emulators ?

Pokemon White

These are fixed ROMs (you can gain EXP). It apparently doesn't work on no$GBA, but I haven't heard any complaints about it not working on flashcarts. Have fun.

Hey /emu/,
I bought an ezflash IV flashcart to use with my gameboy micro a while back. Eventually I got bored and tossed it in a drawer and forgot about it until recently. I decided to get a bunch of gba pokemon hacks and wanted to play them on an actual system. Some work but the one I really want to play (Tohoumon, so I can take Chen to the E4) will not play. It says PSRAM is not enough. I figured I'd fix it by flashing it like you do with Mother 3, except it never appears in the main directory. Anyone had similar issues? If not, any suggestions at all would be great, I'm at the end of my rope here. Sorry for the wall of text.

tl;dr- I get a "PSRAM is not enough" error and the usual fix doesn't work. Any ideas?

Yes. It looks like the added stuff from the hack added too much space. I'm probably just going to run it on an emulator on psp or iPod touch, whichever I can get cheapest.

try renaming the file to something under 8 characters, or even under 4. some games have weird issues with filename length.

are there any emulators that can run gen IV games faster than 100%?
No$GBA works fine at 100% speed but I love VGA's turbo ability, i like to play the gba games at like 1500% speed.
>> No. 320
wait no, nevermind. No$ works until I kill the first starly and then it freezes, with several different diamond and pearl and platinum roms.
Desmmeu or whatever doesn't load at all.

That's due to you having sound disabled. There's a bug in either the Gen IV games or all the emulators that locks up whenever you defeat a Pokemon unless sound is enabled. If you reach that point where it locks up, you can quickly enable it to let it die, then immediately disable it again. A pain, I know, but currently there is no fix that I know of.

On a side note, this actually applies to quite a few DS ROMs, so if it ever locks up at one point, try tinkering with the sound for a bit.

No$Zoomer good sir - check it out.

You can set it to 150 or 200% speed.

Hey /emu/, is this the place to ask this question?
I'm trying to find out how to evolve Slowpoke into Slowking in Pokemon Fire Red386. Does anybody know how? If so, thanks.

Playing Fire Red 386, most trades evolve w/ level up. Maybe you have to level up Slowpoke w/ King's Rock but keep it happy?
